Elements of Life

Draws inspiration from the East Asian naming system for the days of the week, which is ordered after the "Seven Luminaries" (七曜 qī yào), which consists of the Sun, Moon and the five planets visible to the naked eye. Each weekday corresponds to: moon月, fire火, water水, wood木, metal or gold金, earth土, and sun日. The set explores and depicts the typical experiences of each day, including how it feels, the activities associated with it, and how people relate to these elemental representations. Additionally, it aims to reflect the cyclical nature of life as it progresses through the weekdays.

月 - Moon - Monday: Our opening piece of the night. The moon changes phases throughout the month, cycling year after year. It reflects our lives—each person living uniquely, yet overlapping in shared experiences and influencing one another. A part of me is in you, and a part of you is in me. Who I am today—how I act, think, and appear—is shaped by all those connected to me along my journey. Even those we have lost continue to live on within us.

In memory of my brother.

火 - Fire - Tuesday: Second piece of the night. A single spark can start a prairie fire. When there is injustice, there comes resistance.

水 - Water - Wednesday: Third piece of the night. What is the first thing in your mind when we say “water”? We put those minds on the stage. “Shi Shi ~ Shia Shia ~”. And remember it’s middle of the weekday, we are almost there!

木 - Wood - Thursday: Work work! Almost weekend! Let’s do as many work as possible so that tomorrow and weekend we don’t need to worry about it. Then go home, take a shower and rest up!

土 - Earth - Saturday: Everything is rooted from the earth. Enjoy your Saturday.
